A former fulltime national staff coach for US Soccer, David brings years of coaching experience at youth, collegiate and professional levels to the SSM Soccer Academy.

David’s resume includes head or assistant coaching positions at University of South Carolina Spartanburg, Fresno State University, California State University at Sacramento and San Francisco State University. While at Sacramento State, David was named NSCAA Coach of the Year for the 1987 season. Professionally, David coached with the APSL San Francisco Bay Blackhawks and the Sacramento Senators. In 1994 David was selected to coach at the US Sports Festival.

Specializing in elite youth player development, David has been an ODP Regional Head Age Group Coach in both Regions II and IV. Most recently, David served as the Assistant Technical Director for the Virginia Youth Soccer Association where he worked closely with both boys and girls ODP. Prior to joining US Soccer as a national staff coach, David was the Director of Coaching and Player Development for the New Mexico Youth Soccer Association.

While working for US Soccer as a national staff coach, he was responsible for overseeing the Midwest region of the country and worked closely with each state youth director of coaching to promote player development and coach education. David continues to serve as an instructor at US Soccer National Coaching Schools.

David holds a USSF ‘A’ License, National Youth License, Scottish Football Association ‘B’ License and a Brazilian International Coaching Certificate from the Rio De Janeiro Football Association. In addition, David holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology from San Francisco State University.

Whitney Odden
Assistant Coach U18 Girls

Whitney Odden comes to Shattuck-St. Mary’s as a recent Cum Laude graduate of Dartmouth College, where she played four year of intercollegiate soccer at the Division I level.  Whitney graduated with an A.B. degree with a major in Government and a minor in Middle Eastern Language and Literature.

Growing up in Bozeman, Montana, Whitney played club soccer for FC Bozeman for eight years.  During this time she participated in the Montana ODP and represented her state at the regional level.  Whitney captained her FC Bozeman team for three years and helped lead them to the Region IV championships in five of her eight years with the club.

At Bozeman High, Whitney was a four year starter in defense and as a freshman won a state high school championship.   A co-captain in her junior and senior years, Whitney graduated at the top of her class as well being named the Student-Athlete of the Year in 2005.

During Whitney’s four years at Dartmouth, the Big Green was ranked as high as 8th nationally and earned an NCAA tournament appearance in the 2006-2007season.  A defender, she played right back and earned a starting position in her junior and senior years.

Starting her second year at Shattuck-St. Mary’s, Whitney recently received her USSF National ‘D’ coaching license.
